National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time, exempt, term (4 years) position that will help coordinate the NFF’s outgoing funding associated with a new program to provide capacity building to support collaborative efforts nationwide. This is a surge capacity position that is currently funded through February 2028.
About the NFF: The NFF works with communities and organizations to conserve and enhance the watersheds, wildlife habitat, wild places, and recreational opportunities across the 193- million-acre National Forest System. The NFF seeks to engage all Americans in this work.
About the NFF Collaborative Capacity Support Program: The NFF, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, aims to grow support and build agreement for on-the-ground forest stewardship through collaboration in local communities. To do so, the NFF’s new Collaborative Capacity Program will provide collaborative forest stewardship groups with direct financial assistance and technical assistance. The program will also develop targeted knowledge transfer and educational materials to expand the capacity of the field. Financial and technical assistance will support activities such as neutral facilitation, planning and coordination, technical capacity, data sharing, field trips, participation stipends, community engagement efforts, feasibility assessments, coaching and peer learning, and workshops. This program will seek to center the voices, diverse needs, and unique perspectives of Tribes and underserved community stakeholders and will include a robust equity and inclusion focus.

Position Function: The Collaborative Capacity Financial Assistance Coordinator reports to the Conservation Awards Manager and works closely with Conservation Awards and other Conservation Connect staff, and Accounting teams. The Coordinator implements delivery of funding for collaborative groups involved in NFF’s collaborative capacity program. The incumbent is responsible for implementation and coordination of funding and award management processes for outgoing competitive and invited awards using federal and nonfederal funds.
Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordinator will:
- Manage pre- and post-award administration of competitive and/or invited awards, including:
- Coordination with Conservation Connect program staff to plan outgoing invited awards, manage timelines, and complete project review.
- Coordination with external awardee partners to answer questions, support development of funding proposals and follow up on submissions.
- Management of online proposal submission and review system and support of proposal review committees.
- Conduct proposal review and due diligence including risk assessments.
- Develop award agreements and coordinate implementation of signature and filing processes.
- Management of active awards including maintaining accurate project records, ongoing awardee communication, review of payments, and review of reports.
- Help to advance the NFF’s organizational priority of diversifying its awardee base and engaging communities that have historically been underrepresented in public lands management.
- Provide information and technical assistance to potential award applicants.
- Help to ensure compliance with NFF policies for applicable policies and processes, including internal policy as well as federal requirements.
- Support communications with external conservation partners about the opportunity for funding through newsletter and blog posts, writing project summaries, and other conservation-related content for external communication.
- Coordinate with other departments within the organization to ensure that funding processes are effective and make recommendations for improvement.
Education and Qualifications: NFF expects the Coordinator to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a minimum of three years of experience in grant or award administration and compliance, contract management, or related fields.
- Experience with federal funds, with management of 2 CFR 200 Uniform Grant Guidance a plus.
- Experience working within community based natural resource collaboratives is a plus.
- Experience working with tribal or other underserved communities is a plus.
- Commitment to the mission of the NFF.
- A general understanding of National Forest management, and/or other natural resource issues.

Location: The location for this position is flexible throughout the US. This position is a remote/work from home position and requires reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace.
Term: This is a term position funded position through February 2028.
Compensation: The NFF offers competitive compensation commensurate with candidate skills, experience, and location. Total rewards at NFF, beyond salary, include generous paid time off, employer contributions to health savings accounts, matching funds for retirement, and more. NFF has recently (August 2022) implemented a new compensation program with grade levels as part of our commitment to transparency. The salary range for this position will be in the $56,000 to $75,600 range and may be eligible for locality adjustment. Please note that the indicated salary range describes the full range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.
