Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is looking for board certified internists to join our section of hospital medicine. The section currently has 12 hospitalists and one PA and a robust teaching program. The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of clinical and teaching experience. Additional experience and recognition in teaching excellence is highly desirable. Clinical responsibilities of the Hospitalist will be to work within the scope of an internist including, but not limited to, admission and discharging of patients; daily work rounds and daily management of patients under their care; initiation and expedition of consults, special tests, or studies; and ordering and follow-up of all diagnostic tests and studies. Incumbents are expected to serve as attending physicians of a teaching team comprised of medical house staff and students. In this role, the physician will perform daily work and teaching rounds with trainees and will be responsible for clinical work performed by residents and students. Rotating weekend rounds are performed regularly among the hospitalist staff. Staff hospitalists are expected to participate in on-call duties for their patients as per call schedule. We have onsite night hospitalists and, on occasion, daytime hospitalists are asked to cover nights. Physicians must complete clinical reminders and comply with VHA performance measures. Incumbents are expected to participate in quality improvement processes.
The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) consists of two medical centers located in Temple and Waco, one stand-alone clinic in Austin, and four community based outpatient clinics in Brownwood, Cedar Park, College Station and Palestine. Temple, a city of nearly 60,000 is located in Central Texas. It is about 60 miles north of Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World, and 35 miles south of Waco, home of the Dr. Pepper Museum, along Interstate 35. It is approximately centered in a triangle formed by Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas-Ft. Worth. Temple has it all - hometown friendliness with big-city opportunities, including substantial industries, world-famous medical centers, top-ranked educational institutions, exciting arts and cultural activities. CTVHCS is a teaching medical center, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. - Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Must be board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine.
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C 7402(d) and 7407(d).
- Must have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
- Must have completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
