This Associate Medical Officer provides medical leadership in collaboration with the executive team and interfaces with the medical staff to further the clinical goals and strategic objectives. As a member of the executive team for the organization, the Associate Medical Officer position provides a physician perspective at the executive management level and providers the necessary clinical leadership to carry out our mission.

The multi-specialty medical staff includes over 60 physicians, dentists, nurse practioners and physician assistant providers, furnishing over 250,000 visits per year to over 60,000 patients. Two new sites are under development, which will increase the practice's services to over 100,000 patients in the coming year. This individual will establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with medical, dental, nursing, behavioral, pharmacy, nutrition, performance improvement and administrative staff. This individual will be an integral part of ensuring the organization's clinical quality, provider recruitment efforts, financial accountability. The Associate Medical Officer will work in a collaborative fashion with the Chief Medical Officer for the integration and growth of the organization and represent Center at appropriate professional organizations and the greater Austin medical community.

We are seeking a seasoned, talented individual with relevant experience in medical staff organization leadership in a similar-sized Federally Qualified Healthcare System, community health centers system, large outpatient medical practice or healthcare system. This individual must possess excellent provider relationship skills and the ability to work collegially with all medical professionals.

Duties of the Associate Medical Officer:

  • Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and other members of the leadership team to help manage the day-to-day function of clinical processes.
  • Promotes the mission of delivering healthcare safely and effectively, using evidence-based methodology, while improving the efficiency and timeliness of clinical operations in an equitable manner through collaboration with the Operations Team.
  • Responds in a timely manner to questions/concerns/problems raised by providers, nurses, support staff, pharmacy, Performance Improvement or other parts of the organization and works to solve or respond to them in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Well-versed in the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model and helps to manage the transition to a PCMH-based clinical practice throughout Center.
  • Partners with the Grants Director in a collaborative manner.
  • Shares responsibility with the CMO to manage Innovation Projects at Center and track their progress to completion.
  • Understands the role of the CMO within the organization and can function as his/her designee and assume the responsibilities of the CMO during his/her absence.
  • Capable of developing and implementing system-wide, uniform standards of medical clinical practice, medical quality assurance/management programs, practice guidelines and protocols and interdisciplinary collaboration, such as delegation orders for nurses or nurse practitioners and policies and procedures related to patient care.
  • Assists in provider recruitment efforts to ensure clinics are properly staffed with qualified providers and mid-levels.
  • Provides assistance in the development, implementation, and maintenance of treatment and prevention services and public health medical programs in accordance with Federal, State, and local community health regulations and standards.
  • Collaborates with other safety net providers and members of an integrated delivery system to continuously improve the health of the population that we serve.
  • Stays abreast with current performance improvement processes and helps to implement and oversee clinical performance improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of healthcare financing including healthcare industry financial statistical indicators Principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution including resource allocation, leadership techniques and production methods Commonly used database and spreadsheet software (e.g. Excel, Access, SQL, etc.)

Ability to:

Minimum of five years clinical practice as a primary care physician and two years in a management role in a group medical practice setting. Master's Degree in a healthcare or business related field preferred but not required.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION

Must have current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas or ability to obtain in a mutually agreed upon timeframe. Board Certification in area of specialty plus current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registrations for the purpose of writing prescriptions and current Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare providers
